The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation Medicine at the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking academic physiatrists for inpatient and outpatient positions.  Applicants must be board eligible/board certified.  Inpatient candidates should have previous experience working on an inpatient rehabilitation unit with knowledge of CMS rules and regulations.  Outpatient candidates should be interested in sports & work-related injuries, non-interventional spine care, EMG/NCV’s, non-opioid pain management and musculoskeletal medicine.

The candidate must be interested in scholarly endeavors and the promotion of research activities.  A strong commitment to patient care as well as the teaching of residents, medical students, nurses and other healthcare providers is required.  Strong clinical, administrative and interpersonal skills are necessary. The successful candidate is expected to assume administrative responsibilities, mentor residents, develop a referral program and conduct research.

The SUNY Downstate Medical Center is the only academic medical center in Brooklyn, a borough of 2.7 million people and the largest medical school in New York state. The Division of Rehabilitation Medicine has a large residency program and a large outpatient service including sports medicine and pain management.  The University Hospital of Brooklyn is a tertiary referral center with an 18 bed Rehabilitation Unit.

Requirements

BE/BC in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.  Must be eligible for a NYS license
