Description
Job Summary:
The Physical Therapist will carry out an individualized program of physical therapy including evaluation and assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and communication to maximize a patient's progress toward achieving functional goals. The Physical Therapist will also maintain a positive working relationship with the other health professionals and ancillary staff.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises Physical Therapy Assistants, Rehab Aides, and Physical Therapy/Physical Therapy Aide students.
- Performs Physical Therapy assessments, designs treatment plans, and operates necessary clinical equipment.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates functional needs and outcomes, and consults with other specialists.
- Reviews patients’ functional needs and adjusts care plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Designs and implements a plan of care for patients based on a thorough assessment of potential development, and focuses on optimal functional outcomes.
- Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
- Directs support staff safely and properly, within company and/or departmental standards.
- Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on professional literature.
- Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote physical therapy in the community.
- Abides strictly by company, hospital, and/or departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports.

Qualifications/Skills:
- Must have good oral and written communication skills, as well as clear, distinct dictation skills.
- Must be computer literate with good written/typed communication skills for optimal and justifiable documentation for the referring providers and insurance companies alike.
- Must have strong customer service and organizational skills, as well as sound judgment.
- Must be able to work independently with clients and with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Must be able to demonstrate safe and appropriate practices with regards to patient care.
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must have strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Must possess knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.
Education/ Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university required.
- Certified or registered with the State PT Board and current Licensure based in the State(s) of practice.
- One to two years previous experience in a hospital/outpatient setting preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Able to engage in activity that may involve lifting equipment used in patient care, etc.
- Requires lifting, positioning and transferring patients.
- May require frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Potential for exposure to infectious diseases and human waste products.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at times.
